Licensed Practical Nurse or Respiratory Therapist

South Shore Elementary
7 hours/day
Wage: To be determined (License and experience to be considered)
177 days/year
Shift to be determined.

Position overview: This is a new position provides for the individual care needs of a student. Individual will need to be able to perform the tasks as described in the student’s protocols which include oral and nasopharyngeal suctioning and g-tube feeding. Applicant must have either a current Respiratory Therapy certification or be a Licensed Practical Nurse to be considered. See specific qualifications needed below.

Minimum Qualifications of a Respiratory Therapist

  • Current certification by National Board of Respiratory Care (CRT or CRTT) required OR current temporary licensure from the Oregon State Board of Respiratory Therapy and CRT credential within six (6) months of hire required.
  • Current state of Oregon Respiratory Care License required.
  • Two (2) years experience in Respiratory Care preferred.

Minimum Qualifications of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  • College / Accredited Nursing school graduate required.
  • Current unencumbered Oregon LPN Licensure required.

Additional Qualifications and Duties

  • Experience performing oral and nasopharyngeal suctioning in non-clinical environments preferred.
  • Monitoring of the overall health and well being of the student in the school environment.
  • Working closely with the student’s educational team, including the family and participating in the student’s educational program.
  • Managing transitions between school and home including supervision and monitoring during transportation.
  • Assisting with lifting and positioning under the direction and training of school district OT/PT staff.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills; work as a team member and work collaboratively with a variety of people and situations.
  • Facilitating daily communication regarding medical issues with the family.
  • Reviewing, revising and updating medical protocols as necessary.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds
  • Ability to perform all necessary protocols.
  • Ability to be positive, proactive and patient.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

•Teach courses up to the maximum number of contact hours allowed by current accreditation
•Manage all aspects of the program including scheduling, documentation, and accreditation
•Actively engage in retention activities including documented communication with both students and administration regarding attendance and progress
